About the role

AHA is seeking an experienced project manager to join the Emergency Preparedness and Response team in the full-time role of Project Manager AUSVETPLAN, for the period of one-year. You will be an integral part of a dynamic and fun team, working under the direction of the Senior Manager Emergency Response.

The role will be responsible for realising the vision of a new era for AUSVETPLAN, namely AUSVETPLAN is seen as the go-to point for emergency animal disease response information, and incorporates digital linkages and synergies across other elements of the biosecurity collective.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project management of the suite of AUSVETPLAN manuals with a holistic approach, keeping each manual in-step with the others and not allowing them to fall behind or lose currency.
  • Stakeholder engagement and network building.
  • Provision of technical advice to the Senior Manager Emergency Response, and other service streams as requested.
  • Identification of potential risks and opportunities to AHA’s business or reputation and reporting these to senior management.
  • A digital transformation of AUSVETPLAN to ensure all manuals are interlinked and referenced throughout for ease of use and access by all emergency responders.
  • Upskilling other AHA staff both within the Emergency Preparedness and Response portfolio as well as across other service streams.

Skills and experience


  • Advanced project management skills
  • Degree in Veterinary Science, Science or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge of Australia’s animal biosecurity emergency preparedness and response arrangements
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Advanced interpersonal, written and oral communication skills – including technical writing
  • Advanced negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships and networks within the company and with members and key stakeholders at a senior level
  • Commitment to deliver excellent customer service to stakeholders


  • Project management qualification
  • Practical experience in emergency animal disease response
  • Ability to distill complex scientific information into plain English suitable for a non-technical audience such as livestock producers
