World Conference on Animal Production 2028 Call for Expressions of Interest

14th September 2026
The Australian Association of Animal Sciences (AAAS) is proud to host the 13th World Conference on Animal Production (WCAP 2028) in Melbourne from 2-5 July 2028, in partnership with the World Association for Animal Production (WAAP).

Held under the theme The Importance of Animals in a Changing World: Animals, Ecosystems and Humanity – Interconnected Futures, WCAP 2028 will bring together the global animal science community to explore how animal systems can contribute to productive, sustainable, ethical and resilient futures.
Submit an Expression of Interest for a Paper

The AAAS WCAP 2028 Organising Committee is now inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for Papers from researchers, academics, industry professionals and practitioners interested in contributing to the conference program.

The scientific program will be built around five interconnected themes that reflect the opportunities and challenges facing animal production in a rapidly changing world:
  • Integrating the End User – strengthening connections between research, industry, producers and policy to accelerate adoption and impact.
  • Social Aspects – addressing animal welfare, ethics, diversity, social licence and community expectations.
  • Digital Transformation & Omics – exploring advances in data science, artificial intelligence, precision livestock systems, genomics and other emerging technologies that are transforming animal production.
  • Conservation of the Natural World – balancing animal production systems with environmental stewardship, climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.
  • Food & Fibre Security – the role of science and innovation in enhancing the sustainability, resilience and efficiency of global animal production systems to meet future demand.
Together, these themes reflect WCAP 2028's vision of advancing animal systems that are productive, sustainable, ethical and resilient, while strengthening connections between science, industry, policy and society.
Publication Opportunities
AAAS is offering two publication pathways for WCAP 2028 contributions:
  1. Animal Production Science (APS) – a special WCAP 2028 collection of peer-reviewed papers published in Animal Production Science.
  2. Animal Science in Australia (ASA) – the official AAAS conference proceedings publication.

Researchers seeking publication in the Animal Production Science collection must submit an Expression of Interest. This process will assist the Organising Committee and editorial team in identifying suitable papers and planning the review and publication schedule.

To allow sufficient time for peer review, revision and publication ahead of the conference, manuscripts invited for the APS collection will be due approximately 10 months before WCAP 2028.

Key Dates
  • EOI submissions close: 30 September 2026
  • Authors notified of publication stream: 30 November 2026
  • Animal Production Science manuscripts due: September 2027
  • Animal Science in Australia papers due: Early 2028

Get involved
As host of WCAP 2028, AAAS is committed to showcasing the excellence, innovation and impact of animal science research from Australia and around the world. Members are strongly encouraged to contribute to the scientific program and help shape discussions that will influence the future of global animal production.

Early expressions of interest will help shape a world-class scientific program and showcase the breadth and impact of Australian and international animal science research at this premier global event.
